When we watch movies and Tv shows we can see that the characters are dressed in a certain way and each of them has their own personal style or flair that makes them different and unique.
For example, in The Nanny, Fran Fine’s life makes a turn when she becomes a nanny for the three children of a wealthy widower. In the whole Tv show, Fran can be seen wearing many bright colours, fun patterns, and quite different pieces of clothing. Like patent leather, furry coats, and sequined outfits. These types of garments express qualities such as fun, outgoing, bubbly, and energetic.
I believe tv shows must capture these things for a character to truly encapsulate their personalities and allow viewers to see and almost feel like they can understand this character. It is done extremely well in the nanny as Fran Fine perfectly resembles her personality through outfits. It is like the phrase “show don’t tell” because within the first episode you can automatically pick up Fran’s identity and what she is like through what she is wearing.
